On 8 September 2026, Omar Ramadan, co-founder and Security Lead at ObsidianCorps, took part in the Experts’ Forum on Critical Maritime Infrastructure in Manila, the Philippines, as an expert speaker with EU CyberNet.
Organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, the forum brought together policymakers and international representatives to discuss the protection of maritime infrastructure. Omar contributed alongside fellow EU CyberNet expert Sérgio Bryton. EU CyberNet’s event report provides further details.
Security beyond the port perimeter
Omar’s contribution focused on viewing maritime security as a connected ecosystem. Ports depend on relationships between shipping companies, logistics providers, customs, technology suppliers and port authorities. Securing an individual organisation does not, by itself, secure every relationship on which its operations depend.
A compromised partner can therefore become a route into critical operations. Omar emphasised the importance of considering cyber, physical and psychological security together to identify risks earlier and strengthen resilience.
A perspective central to our work
At ObsidianCorps, this connection between technology, infrastructure and people shapes how we approach security. A useful assessment asks how access is granted, how trust is verified and how teams recognise and escalate concerns across organisational boundaries.
The same principle informs our training and exercises: preparation should help people understand their responsibilities and practise decisions that involve colleagues, suppliers and operational teams. For organisations in Luxembourg and the Greater Region, these questions are relevant wherever business operations rely on external partners.
